We make decisions every day. We decide what to wear, what to eat, what movie to watch and who to hang out with. These decisions are natural and often automatic. When faced with an unplanned pregnancy, how does one decide to terminate?
Some ideas to put in your paper are: When the fetus is found to be "not viable" or has a birth defect, they do not call it an abortion when the doctor offers the option to abort; they call it a D & C. Pregnancy is very traumatic to the health of those who are very young or over 35. Not everyone is healthy enough for pregnancy. Women who are overweight run a higher risk of gestational diabetes and other complications. What excuses do many women use to justify termination? Rape, money, age, failed birth control, etc.
You would really need to tell us what your position is. Are you pro-choice? Pro life? I always told myself that I would never abort if I got pregnant over the age of 20. When faced with the decision at 27, I chose to terminate. For me, I was overweight and would have a high risk pregnancy. My career was just starting to be solid and the timing was awful. I chose to terminate. I also chose to get healthy so that when I do choose to have a baby, it is planned and healthy.
What do women do as a result of abortion to prevent pregnancy? Birth control? Abstinence? It is a traumatic thing. When I had mine, I chose to get a non-hormonal IUD so that when I do decide to get pregnant, I have to go to the doctor to get my implant removed. There is very little chance of me getting pregnant again without a great deal of planning. References :
